David Beckham speaks at RTS London about the British television industry

David Beckham will address the UK’s television industry giants at RTS London next month and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy will deliver her first major keynote speech in the role.

The football icon is the latest in a line-up bursting at the seams with big names and will speak to Sister boss Jane Featherstone at the event at King’s Place.

Beckham, a former Manchester United and England player, is co-founder of Studio 99, the company behind companies such as Save our Squad with David Beckham And Ronnie O’Sullivan: On the Edge of the World along with last year’s Netflix documentary about the man himself. A documentary about Victoria Beckham, also produced by Studio 99 along with Sister-backed Dorothy Street Pictures, was launched in Edinburgh last week.

The theme of the RTS London is The next episode: Preserving our creativity Beckham is among the final group to join the ranks of candidates, alongside Culture Minister Nandy, Sky Studios boss Cécile Frot-Coutaz and ITN CEO Rachel Corp.

Nandy will deliver her first major keynote in this role, outlining her priorities for the creative industry. Other speakers include Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, BBC DG Tim Davie, Channel 4 boss Alex Mahon and Thursday Murder Club Author Richard Osman.

Theresa Wise, CEO of the Royal Television Society, said: “This year’s RTS Congress in London features an outstanding line-up of speakers from around the world and the Congress team have put together an exciting day of dynamic and challenging discussions.”

RTS London takes place on Tuesday 17 September.
