On Tuesday (September 10), Dave Grohl surprised his fans with the announcement that he is now the father of a baby born out of wedlock with Jordyn Blum.

In a brief message on Instagram, the Foo Fighters frontman got straight to the point. “I recently became the father of a baby girl, born outside of my marriage,” Grohl wrote. “I plan to be a loving and supportive father to her.”

“I love my wife and children and am doing everything I can to earn back their trust and earn their forgiveness,” added the former Nirvana drummer, who shares 18-year-old Violet, 15-year-old Harper and 10-year-old Ophelia with Blum. “We are grateful for your consideration toward all of the children affected as we move forward together.”

There was no further comment from Grohl’s team.

The musician has been married to Blum since 2003. The couple has chosen to keep their relationship largely private, but Grohl has spoken openly in the past about how the director and his family support him in his hectic life.

“Over the last 20 years of touring, I have always longed for stability,” he said The Guardian in 2007, when his eldest daughter was just a baby. “Chaos has never appealed to me. Throughout my entire Nirvana experience, whenever I felt like I was being sucked into the tornado of madness, I would retreat to Virginia. The same goes for the Foo Fighters – I couldn’t do this if I didn’t have my feet firmly on the ground. So Jordyn and Violet are anchors that keep me from completely disappearing.”

Before his relationship with Blum, Grohl was married to Jennifer Youngblood. He has spoken openly about how his infidelity in his first marriage led to divorce in 1997.
