Daniels called him “the answer” after leading the Commanders to victory over the Bengals

After Jayden Daniels’ performance in Washington’s 38-33 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football, it’s hard to argue that he hasn’t been the most outstanding rookie this season.

Daniels completed 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-winning 27-yard pass to wide receiver Terry McLaurin while being hit by an oncoming defender.

Defensive tackle Jon Allen didn’t mince his words when he announced his verdict on the 23-year-old.

He simply said, “He is the answer.”

McLaurin added: “I think he grew up tonight. I’m so happy for him because now, as a freshman, you get more confidence when you see those shots.

“And I think his confidence is just through the roof right now.”

Washington has now won two games in a row, thanks in large part to the rookie’s contributions.

The team scored points on 14 consecutive offenses that did not end in a kneel-down, and Daniels was instrumental in that offensive success.

In three games, he has completed 80.3% of his passes, thrown for 662 yards and scored two touchdowns without any interceptions.

Against the Bengals, Daniels had to convert three crucial fourth downs.

A fourth-down pass to rookie receiver Luke McCaffrey resulted in a 30-yard gain and Washington’s first touchdown. A fourth-down run and one early in the fourth quarter resulted in a field goal.

Daniels said: “It’s just a blessing that the coaching staff has faith in me and that I go out there and make something happen at the crucial moment.

“But that doesn’t just say something about me, but about the entire offensive.”

Daniels capped off the evening with his first unique moment when he threw the ball perfectly and sent it flying 40 yards through the air, resulting in a touchdown in McLaurin’s arms.

The receiver added: “When we needed it most, Jayden did a great job taking the hit.

“These are difficult throws for a beginner.”
