The Dallas Cowboys defensive line suffered a setback this week when Jordan Phillips was placed on the injured list with a wrist injury. A few hours later, former first-round pick Mazi Smith left practice early.
Smith had to abandon training on Wednesday due to a back injury and was unable to attend Thursday’s session.
Smith participated on Friday but was limited and his participation in Sunday’s duel with the Baltimore Ravens is officially questionable.

However, Smith fully participated in the team’s tryouts. Although his participation is listed as questionable, Patrik Walker of DallasCowboys.com says Smith is expected to play.
“Smith left practice early on Wednesday due to back discomfort and did not return or participate on Thursday, but head coach Mike McCarthy was impressed with Smith’s progress on Friday and this led to him being a full participant in the team’s tryout; and also gave McCarthy the “Full Steam Ahead” seal of approval despite him being listed as questionable on the final injury report.”
The Cowboys will need all the help they can get this weekend when reigning MVP Lamar Jackson comes to town, and if the defense doesn’t perform as well as it did in Week 2, it’s going to be another long day at AT&T Stadium.
Kickoff between the Cowboys and Ravens is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX, with Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi on commentary.
