Dallas Cowboys’ DaRon Bland is reportedly out with a stress fracture in his foot

Despite ample evidence to the contrary, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has repeatedly stated throughout the NFL offseason and 2024 training camp that he is “all in.”

However, for various reasons, this is not the case for all of his players.

The latest blow came on Saturday when, according to multiple reports, All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland will need to undergo surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot and could be out for up to two months.

He became a force in 2023 after replacing fellow All-Pro Trevon Diggs, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL last September. Bland took over and went on to lead the NFL with nine interceptions, returning five of them for touchdowns – setting an NFL record.

NFL record predictions for 2024: What are the Cowboys’ prospects?

Bland’s absence now poses another problem for Dallas, the defending NFC East champion. Pass rusher Sam Williams suffered a torn ACL early in training camp. Without Bland, the secondary will be especially weakened after former Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore, who started every game at cornerback last season, recently signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

And of course, All-Pro wideout CeeDee Lamb has yet to report to the Cowboys as he continues to seek a new contract that would likely put him near the top of the pay scale, alongside the Vikings’ Justin Jefferson, whose new contract extension pays him an average of $35 million annually.

Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott and linebacker Micah Parsons are also in line for new contracts, but Jones, who was unusually inactive during this year’s free agency period – and yet lost several starters to other teams, including three to division rival Washington Commanders – has not yet resolved those issues and currently appears primarily focused on getting Lamb back into the fold.

The Cowboys open their season on September 8th away against the Cleveland Browns.
