CTA expands bus service to 11 routes

CHICAGO – Starting Sunday, scheduled service will be increased on eleven CTA bus routes throughout the region.

This move comes as the CTA continues to hire new bus drivers with the goal of providing more frequent and better bus service.

“With this latest change, we have improved service on 59 bus routes this year and returned our bus system to 98% of pre-pandemic planned service levels,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. “The CTA is committed to continuing to work to make our bus service more frequent and reliable, building on our significant successes in recruiting and hiring, and we remain on track to fully restore pre-pandemic planned bus service by the end of 2024.”

According to CTA, there will be increased service on the following routes on weekdays:

Officials added that the CTA has seen an increase in ridership on routes that received additional services during the year. In fact, ridership on routes that received additional services in March increased 21% in June and July compared to the previous year; ridership on routes that received additional services in June increased 18% in June and July compared to the previous year.

According to CTA, ridership on routes that did not see service adjustments this year also increased 12% over the same period last year.

The CTA also hopes to improve service in the fall by hiring new train drivers after they complete their training. Rail service will be increased on all lines during both peak and off-peak hours.
