Crime in League City: Inmate escapes from hospital after leaving gown behind, found hours later near highway

An inmate escaped early Sunday morning while receiving medical treatment at UTMB Victory Lakes in League City. Desmond Taylor, 37, who was arrested Friday on assault and domestic violence charges with prior convictions, was able to escape from his hospital room, sparking an ongoing search by local authorities. Taylor has since been recaptured following an extensive search.

At the time of his escape, Taylor was probably wearing only socks and underwear.

Details of the arrest

Taylor, a Houston resident, was initially taken into custody by League City police following his arrest. After being booked into the League City Jail, Taylor complained of a medical issue and was transported to the UTMB Victory Lakes facility for evaluation.

The escape

Authorities say Taylor escaped from the hospital room around 1:02 a.m. Sunday. The circumstances of his escape remain under investigation. Taylor’s hospital gown was discovered outside the building, suggesting he may have been trying to blend in or find clothing.

League City police officers, with assistance from several surrounding agencies, established a perimeter and initiated a coordinated search of the area. Despite the early morning escape, Taylor was located and arrested in the 1500 block of W League City Parkway near the S Gulf Freeway. He was taken back into custody without incident.
