During the week of August 12, Jacksonville-founded Maple Street Biscuit Co. will open its first Palm Beach County restaurant in Royal Palm Beach.

The store, located at 11925 Southern Blvd., will host a grand opening celebration at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, and will be the 67th location of the Florida-founded chain owned by Cracker Barrel, which has another South Florida restaurant in Pembroke Pines.

Founders Scott Moore and Gus Evans opened the first Maple Street location in Jacksonville’s San Marco neighborhood in 2012. The fast-casual breakfast and brunch restaurant became a popular local hangout and quickly expanded with two more locations in the Jacksonville area.

Seven years later, with 33 restaurants in seven states, Moore and Evans sold Maple Street to Cracker Barrel in 2019, signing a $36 million deal. The company has since expanded the brand to 10 states and more than 65 “community store” locations, outpacing the growth of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, its signature chain.

A meal at Maple Street is a casual affair. The counter service model allows guests to sit at bar tables, tables and common areas, and beverages such as hot and cold tea, soft drinks and “bottomless” filter coffee are available on a self-service basis.

According to Kim DiGilarmo, the company’s vice president of field sales, the brand is distinguished by its unique menu items, fresh-baked cookies and small-batch roasted coffee.

“But we really feel like our guests keep coming back because of our welcoming atmosphere and the community we try to build within the four walls of each store,” says DiGilarmo.

The menu features Southern comfort food with a modern twist, and dishes rely heavily on Maple Street’s house-baked biscuits, which are used to create a small selection of popular breakfast sandwiches. Made fresh every 90 minutes with artisan flour, pure butter and a touch of maple syrup, there are two varieties, including traditional buttermilk and iced cinnamon.

Like the cookies, many specialty ingredients are made in-house, including a sausage and vegan-friendly shiitake sauce, as well as apple butter, berry jam, and a sweet red pepper jelly. Fresh-squeezed orange juice, house-brewed sweetened and unsweetened tea, and four varieties of Maple Street-brand coffee and espresso are made fresh throughout the day. Adults can also opt for mimosas and flavored bourbon-flavored lattes.

Popular menu items at Maple Street include the “Squawking Goat,” a biscuit-based sandwich with a fried chicken breast topped with a fried goat cheese medallion and house-made pepper jelly ($11.95); the “Five and Dime,” a fried chicken breast or country fried steak with pecan-smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried egg, topped with gravy ($13.95); and the “Sweet Grace” chocolate waffle topped with strawberries, powdered sugar, whipped cream and Bissell Family Farm maple syrup ($9.90).

The new location will open with Maple Street’s newest menu item: breakfast tacos, which were added to the menu earlier this summer.

“Some are classic, others are our take on our unique cookie sandwiches,” says DiGilarmo. “The tacos are a popular new addition and a great take-out option.”

Sold in pairs or as a trio, the steak taco features all-new ingredients: steak strips mixed with scrambled eggs, melted cheese, roasted peppers and onions, and creamy jalapeño sauce, and a vegetarian version with brown mushrooms, sautéed spinach, goat cheese, scrambled eggs, and a maple balsamic dressing ($9.50–$14).

The restaurant also serves sides like grits, hash browns with potatoes and scallions, and bacon ($2.75 to $4). Customers can also purchase freebies like mugs and bags of the brand’s maple syrup-infused coffee beans.
