Couple who met on blind date in arcade returns for wedding

A couple who had their first date at Southport Funland returned to the amusement centre on their wedding day. Silcock’s Funland, located on Southport’s promenade, is a year-round entertainment centre with games, rides and prizes, as well as a cafe and snack bar.

Louise and Eric Morris, both from Southport, chose the location for their blind date and have been there many times since. They even had their wedding photos taken there. The couple exchanged wedding vows at St Cuthbert’s Church in Churchtown on July 20, three years after they first met.

Speaking to the ECHO, Louise said: “When we met, it was a sort of blind date, arranged by Eric’s cousin, whose children I was looking after. It went really well and the rest is history.”

The couple make it a point to visit the attraction regularly. Eric explains: “If we ever go out together, we still go to Funland and try out the arcades.”

“We always come home from there with a lot of rubbish. The things we won and the vouchers actually went towards the wedding, so it’s all sentimental.”

The couple described their wedding last month as “perfect”. Louise added: “It was very busy but nothing went wrong, the sun was shining and it was just a really beautiful day.”

“During the day, family and friends were there and later about 80 more people came.” She giggled: “My family is so big that I had eight bridesmaids.”
