The coroner has determined the identity of the 39-year-old man who died when he was struck by a car while apparently trying to cross Route 12 near Wauconda Wednesday evening.

The Wauconda Fire District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle crash with injuries in the area of Route 12 and Old Rand Road in the unincorporated community of Wauconda around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

A deputy sheriff performed CPR on the man and his pulse returned.

He was taken by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, Covelli said.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and sent the case to the hospital.

The man was identified as Pablo Campuzano-Reynoso, 39, of Arlington Heights, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Camry, driven by a 68-year-old McHenry man, was traveling north on Route 12, Covelli said.

As the Toyota headed north, it appeared as if Campuzano-Reynoso was attempting to cross Route 12 on foot.

The driver of the Toyota failed to see Campuzano-Reynoso and hit him as he headed north.

The driver of the Toyota, who remained at the scene of the accident, was uninjured.
