Continued calm weather with temperatures close to average

It was a nice start to the work week with seasonable temperatures and some sunshine. Our weather for the rest of the week will be largely dictated by a significant high pressure system stretching from Canada southward into the Central Plains. This phenomenon is blocking the eastward spread of any possible weather systems, aided by the upper airflow that is also forming a ridge across the central part of the US. Tonight will be mostly clear with light winds, and it will cool down again with lows between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. Tuesday will be a similar day of weather, but mid- and mid-summer clouds are possible during the day. This comes ahead of a weak disturbance that drops in the northwesterly flow over Minnesota. Light winds will be blowing from the east, and afternoon highs will be mostly around 24 degrees Celsius. There is a small chance that counties along the Minnesota border will be touched by a few showers Tuesday evening due to this phenomenon, but otherwise it is expected to remain dry until later in the week.

Wednesday and Thursday will remain dry with a mix of sunshine and clouds, along with highs in the upper half of the 70s. Dew points are expected to stay below 60 degrees during the day, making it feel quite comfortable. Then changes will arrive later Friday and into next weekend. Those changes will initially include our best chance for rain this week, in the form of isolated showers Thursday night. A low pressure wave over the Dakotas will attempt to move northeast, around the receding high over the Great Lakes. It’s questionable how far east the showers can penetrate, so the total amount and impacts seem pretty minimal at this point. Otherwise, south and southwest flows will take over by the weekend, and as the heat ridge moves a little farther north through the Plains, the configuration will favor higher heat and humidity. Temperatures could climb to 90 degrees by Sunday, along with rising dew points.
