Congratulations are in order for Oilers captain Connor McDavid.
The 2015 First Team Player of the Year – whose Oilers were eliminated in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final by the Florida Panthers in June – recently married interior designer Lauren Kyle in Ontario, as seen in photos published by Vogue Australia.
The wedding took place outdoors on Old Woman Island, a small island across from Lake Muskoka where the couple got engaged last summer.
They also have a cabin on Lake Mushoka.
According to another snapshot, Oilers winger Evander Kane was also present at the wedding.
“It was a 10-day production, four events in different locations and building infrastructure on an island with only boat access,” Kyle told the publication.
The theme of the wedding was “European summer”.
Guests were asked to dress in “old money-themed clothing” and pastel shades of pink and purple, similar to the hydrangeas planted at the venue.
“The European summer dream really came to life with the colorful outfits, the gardens, the spritz bar, the tennis court and the jazz band that led us into the most beautiful night,” raved Kyle.
Kyle said McDavid, who is normally reserved, was unexpectedly emotional during the ceremony.
“An unexpected element of the wedding was Connor’s vows. He’s usually quite reserved and tight-lipped about his feelings, but his vows were so emotional and heartfelt – it was really special to share that in front of all our friends and family.”
Kyle wore five vintage looks, including a Ralph Lauren runway dress from the Spring/Summer 2007 collection – and a Chloé dress worn by supermodel Kate Moss on the runway in 1997.
She wore a custom-made Vivienne Westwood dress to the ceremony and a Danielle Frankel dress to the welcoming dinner.
McDavid wore a custom tuxedo to the ceremony by Cloakroom, a men’s fashion label based in Montreal.
For his first appearance he wore a green linen suit by Brunello Cucinelli.
After tying the knot, the newlyweds went for a boat ride on the lake.
“Connor and I did a victory lap around the island on an old wooden boat. It was so nice to have a moment together. We were grateful for where we were and for all the people who came to support us,” Kyle said.
“We really have to enjoy the moment.”
The Canadian DJ group Loud Luxury performed at the after-party.
This came nearly two months after the Panthers defeated the Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to win their first title.
McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs.
McDavid proposed to Kyle last June in Ontario, after a historic season – he finished with 64 goals and 153 points – that earned him his third Hart Trophy as MVP of the 2023 NHL.
Kyle runs her own full-service interior design firm, Kyle & Co., in Edmonton.
The couple also has a dog, Lenard, a miniature Bernedoodle.
