Colt McCoy gives Arch Manning advice in his first start

Colt McCoy was back at the Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday and was in the Texas Athletics Hall of Fame. No matter who is the center of attention, Texas quarterbacks are asked whoever is on the field. Arch Manning However, being out there makes potential questions even more exciting.

The youngster received advice from the Longhorns legend. McCoy Quinn Ewerswho will return to the starting lineup once he is healthy, is also there. His message was to just do your job as a quarterback and give the players around you the opportunity to make their plays.

McCoy likes the head coach’s squad Steve Sarkisian has built in Austin and believes they are good enough to win the national championship. Ewers and/or Manning have a chance to do something special.

“There’s a lot of pressure when you play quarterback at the University of Texas,” McCoy said on the SECN+ broadcast. “There’s a certain expectation and everything that comes with being the right guy. For them, I would just say they have a wonderful team around them. This team is built to win a championship.”

“Just go out there and do the job and focus on supporting each other. I think they have a great relationship. Coach Sark has done a really good job, Coach Milwee. So they’re in really good hands. Just go out there, ignore the noise and play your game.”

McCoy has been in the shoes of Ewers and Manning at different points in his career. In 2006, McCoy was the young starter with no experience. A few years later, he was the veteran hoping to lead the program to incredible heights.

Before Ewers led Texas to a Big 12 championship last season, McCoy was the last quarterback to win a conference title in 2009. His team defeated Nebraska on a last-second field goal and advanced to the BCS National Championship game against Alabama. McCoy was then infamously injured and watched Nick Saban win the first of six games in Tuscaloosa.

Texas would love to have another conference championship on its resume, especially in its first year as a member of the SEC. However, McCoy sees the bigger picture and sees a team capable of eventually winning the College Football Playoff.

There is still a lot of work ahead for Ewers, Manning, Sarkisian and Co. The SEC games start next Saturday against State of Mississippi with eight more games after that.
