College football scores, games, updates: Tennessee at Oklahoma, Baylor at Colorado and more

The fourth week of the college football season marks the start of conference play for many teams, and given the schedule, expectations should not be disappointed.

Clemson clearly dominated its conference rival NC State early on, scoring 45 points in the first half for an easy win that shows the team can compete alongside Miami at the top of the ACC.

The first few games were also historic. James Madison scored more points in the first half than ever before against North Carolina, winning 70-50 (UNC had never allowed that many points in a half before Saturday). Later, Temple kicker Maddux Trujillo made a 64-yard field goal – the longest kick in 16 years and just one yard shy of Martin Gramatica’s record.

In the evening window, No. 18 Michigan defeated No. 11 USC in a way only the Wolverines could, winning essentially solely on their running game. In another ranked matchup, No. 12 Utah edged No. 14 Oklahoma State to claim the Big 12 victory despite Utes QB Cameron Rising sitting out another game.

Here are the winners and losers of week four in college football.

  • Touchdown Oklahoma

It’s too little, too late, but Michael Hawkins led the Sooners to a touchdown – capped off by an acrobatic somersault into the end zone by the quarterback. That is still under review.

  • Baylor misses field goal

Baylor comes within field goal range, but Isaiah Hankins misses from 45 yards. This would have made the decision in favor of the Bears as good as certain.

The score is still only one point, 31-24, and there are 2:16 minutes left to play.

  • Final: Miami 50, South Florida 15

Cam Ward finished with 404 yards passing, 3 TDs, and 1 INT as Miami pulled away in the 2nd half.

    Ball by Baylor, game tied.

  • OU gets the ball back down 13

The Sooners get the ball back after a defensive play and have it at their own 27-yard line. Hawkins showed some promise moving the ball on the final drive. We’ll see if he can get Oklahoma back on their feet with just over 6 minutes left in the game.

  • Touch down, Oklahoma!

In the fourth quarter, the Sooners finally reach the end zone with Michael Hawkins at the helm. The backup QB finds Jovantae Barnes from the backfield for a touchdown, reducing the Vols’ lead.

After a penalty, Oklahoma’s Tyler Keltner misses the extra point, leaving the score at 22:9.

Could FSU really fall to 0-4?

  • End of the 3rd quarter: Tennessee 22, Oklahoma 3

There wasn’t much to see on offense in the third quarter in Norman. The Sooners’ offense is simply anemic. They have 98 total yards with one quarter to go.

Miami is now in full control and leads South Florida 36-15 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
