Colleen Hoover’s “Regretting You” is being made into a film following the success of “It Ends With Us”

Following the success of “It Ends With Us,” another novel by Colleen Hoover is set to be adapted for the big screen.

According to Deadline, the author’s 2019 novel “Regretting You” is to be made into a film. The main roles are played by McKenna Grace (known from the series “Ghostbusters” and “The Handmaid’s Tale”) and “Girls” actress Allison Williams.

The film deals with a strained mother-daughter relationship, with Williams playing Grace’s mother.

“Morgan Grant (Williams) is determined to save her 16-year-old daughter Clara (Grace) from making the same mistakes she did,” the book summary says. “By getting pregnant and married far too young, Morgan has put her own dreams on hold.”

“Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. With their feuding personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to get along. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris – Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father and the anchor of the family.

“But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident.”

The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone has signed on to direct Regretting You, with Susan McMartin adapting the screenplay.

The film announcement comes hot on the heels of the success of “It Ends With Us,” also written by Hoover, which enjoyed impressive box office success over the weekend.

Starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the film has already grossed $50 million in the US, well over double the $25 million budget co-financed by Sony Pictures and Baldoni’s Wayfarer Studios.

The film currently has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 59%, but has been received even better by audiences: It Ends With Us received an audience rating of 94% on the website.

“It Ends With Us” is now in theaters.
