Coastal low brings heavy rain and wind to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WITN) – Onslow County and areas along the Crystal Coast were hit by rain and wind from the storm on Monday.

A tornado warning was in effect for southern Onslow County on Monday afternoon.

Norm Bryson of Onslow County Emergency Services says the biggest concern during the storm is driving. “It doesn’t take a lot of water to cause hydroplaning,” Bryson said. “Really take your time, plan it and drive safely. Don’t drive beyond your line of sight and make sure you get to your destination safely.”

Jermaine Morrison, a Jacksonville resident, says he already takes caution when driving. “I think the most important thing is to slow down and pay attention to everyone else and their behavior.”

Morrison has lived in the area for a while now, so he’s used to weather like Monday’s. He says if you’re not, it takes time, but safety comes first.

“Over time, you get used to the sight of puddle water,” Morrison said. “You just learn what to do, like slow down, take your time and pay attention.”

Sneads Ferry and Holly Ridge are expected to experience the worst of the storm later Monday evening.
