Climate betrayal: banks’ secret offshore deals with fossil fuel companies

Event description

You’ve heard of greenwashing and greenhushing. But have you ever heard of greenlaundering?

The Tax Justice Network has been working on the first research of its kind to shed light on the connection between financial secrecy and bank financing of fossil fuels.

The report examines what proportion of fossil fuel financing goes through so-called tax havens – so-called secrecy jurisdictions – and how banks and fossil fuel companies benefit from this.

Because fossil fuel financing is often conducted through a “hall of mirrors,” banks can largely hide their true fossil fuel exposure from the public and regulators, while customers can circumvent banks’ exclusion policies.

Join our webinar where report authors Alison Schultz and Franziska Mager will present their findings, implications for our work, and opportunities for collaboration with the tax justice movement.
