In a message from CCSD Communications Director Scott Thompson, families were told the following Wednesday evening:

Effective immediately (Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.), CCSD will resume its normal school schedule on Thursday, September 26, with the exception of extracurricular activities, all of which have been canceled.

However, due to the current weather reports we have received from GEMA, we have decided to cancel classes on Friday, September 27th. This cancellation includes all extracurricular activities. Should circumstances change regarding school schedules on Thursday, we will provide updates as soon as possible at our website And Facebook page and to families via our mass email and SMS system.

The Clarke County School District is announcing plans for Thursday and Friday in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Helene. As of Wednesday afternoon, the district planned to operate on its regular schedule on Thursday. However, all extracurricular activities for Thursday have been canceled. The CCSD will announce plans for Friday’s school operations by 1:30 p.m. Thursday, based on updates from GEMA and the National Weather Service.

Message from Clarke County School District regarding Hurricane Helene:

CCSD families,

As we prepare for the severe weather forecast for our area, we continue to work in coordination with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and local authorities to monitor the storm and the disruptions it may cause to our daily school operations.

The most current forecasts we have received from the National Weather Service and GEMA call for heavy rains and possibly severe storms beginning this evening (Wednesday, September 25) through Friday morning, September 27, with strong winds and possibly tropical storm conditions expected beginning Thursday night (September 26).

With that in mind, CCSD will operate on its regular schedule effective immediately (3:15 p.m. Wednesday) through tomorrow (Thursday). However, all extracurricular activities – including after-school programs, sporting events/practices, etc. – have been canceled for Thursday. CCSD will announce plans for Friday’s school operations by 1:30 p.m. Thursday, based on the noon update we receive from GEMA and the National Weather Service.

Please understand that these plans are flexible and we will provide regular updates as needed should we need to change course. We will post updates both on our website (www.clarke.k12.ga.us) and our official Facebook page (facebook.com/ClarkeCoSchools) and communicate with families through our mass email and SMS system.
