Chiefs sign ex-Eagles defender after he was surprisingly released, according to insider

As the 2024 National Football League regular season draws closer, teams continue to optimize their rosters and training teams.

Due to roster cuts earlier in the week, there are still plenty of interesting players available on the open market, and franchises are taking advantage. The Philadelphia Eagles – like every other team in the league – had to trim their roster down to 53 players earlier this week.

Since then, the Eagles have worked around the practice squad and also acquired players released by other teams. Philadelphia recently released defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu to make room on the roster for defensive tackle Byron Young from the Las Vegas Raiders.

However, Tuipulotu was not available for long, as he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

“The Chiefs sign DT Marlon Tuipulotu to the practice squad, according to his agent Ness Mugrabi
and David Canter,” Garafolo said. “The Eagles’ 2021 sixth-round pick appeared in 28 games in Philly over three seasons.”

Tuipulotu was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2021 National Football League Draft and spent three seasons with the team. Last year, he appeared in 14 games with Philadelphia, recording two sacks and 22 total tackles.

He will now try to secure a place on the active roster of the reigning champions Chiefs over the course of the season. Tuipulotu may not have made it onto the Eagles’ active roster, but he will still have a chance with a rival team.
