Cheryl Hines is reportedly furious over her husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s alleged affair with star political reporter Olivia Nuzzi. Although Hines has yet to comment publicly on the situation, a source close to the couple suggests that she is “no pushover and has strong self-confidence.”

Nuzzi, who was placed on leave from New York Magazine in the wake of the rumor mill, recently admitted to having been in contact with Kennedy as part of his coverage of the campaign, raising serious questions about journalistic ethics and conflicts of interest.

“He’s been traveling a lot this year, so maybe it’s been different and has put the relationship to the test,” a source told the NY Post, speculating on the current situation and pointing to the recently suspended presidential candidacy.

“I can’t imagine her putting up with this. She has a backbone,” the insider added, noting that the “Cut It, Larry!” actress won’t take this lightly, even though she hasn’t spoken out about it publicly yet. “She’s not a little housewife. She’s successful and financially independent.”

While the Kennedy camp has categorically denied any affair rumors between the two, Nuzzi admitted in her statement to the editors of NY Magazine that she got too personal with her reporter earlier this year. Although she did not name the person, she clarified that she did not use that person as a source for her work.

Kennedy Jr., who recently suspended his presidential candidacy and withdrew from major political camps to ultimately side with Donald Trump, is currently under fire after news of his alleged sexting relationship with 31-year-old New York Magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzi came to light on Thursday.

When asked by the media about the former presidential candidate’s “personal relationship” with Nuzzi, a spokesman for Cheryl Hines said on Friday that they had “no comment at this time.”

Another source close to Cheryl Hines and RFK Jr. believes their relationship will not survive this controversy, saying, “I would be shocked if Cheryl stayed.” In their statement to the Post, they noted, “(Kennedy) has always been known as a flirt and more, even Cheryl knows that. But it seemed, at least in public, that he was faithful (until now). This is not good for Cheryl in Hollywood.”

While the New York Magazine reporter denied any physical relationship, she admitted she had a personal relationship with someone she reported on earlier this year. She admitted she should have disclosed the relationship to avoid any appearance of conflict and regretted not doing so sooner.

“During that time, I did not report directly on the individual nor did I use him or her as a source. Although the relationship was never physical, it should have been disclosed to avoid the appearance of a conflict,” she previously explained in a statement to editors, as reported by Staus. “The nature of some communications between me and a former reporting subject became personal,” Nuzzi admitted.

The magazine apologized and said that while it had found no evidence of inaccuracies in its work, it was now having the matter independently investigated. It also apologized to its readers for the breach of trust.

Sources told the Post that the journalist and the politician began sexting while he was still married to Hines and she was engaged to fellow reporter Ryan Lizza. Nuzzi and Lizza have reportedly since split.
