Chase with suspect in allegedly stolen vehicle leads authorities on dangerous, reckless pursuit

A suspect was arrested after a wild and bizarre chase ended in the Norwalk area.

The pursuit, which began after a traffic stop by the LAPD near San Pedro, escalated through several neighborhoods and ended in a foot chase and the arrest of the suspect.

SkyFOX captured the chase in Long Beach around 12:40 p.m., with the suspect recklessly navigating both city streets and freeways. The suspected stolen car was observed traveling at high speeds on rural roads, speeding through intersections, driving on the wrong side of the road and even driving on sidewalks.

During the chase, the vehicle’s passenger door was seen swinging open before the passenger later jumped out of the vehicle near the intersection of Redondo Avenue and Willow Street in Long Beach.

The connection between the woman and the driver is unknown. She did not appear to be injured and it is unclear if she was involved in the crime.

The suspect continued to drive erratically, at one point driving onto the sidewalk at high speed and driving on the wrong side of the road.

The chase ended dramatically when the vehicle stopped in a dead-end street near Jessey Avenue and Stangate Street. The driver got out and fled on foot, after which LAPD officers embarked on a thrilling chase through the area.

SkyFOX located him at a speed of 15 mph. He ran through residential streets but didn’t get far. An officer followed him from behind and quickly tackled him to the ground. The suspect was arrested without further incident.

No injuries were reported in the chase. Officials are still investigating the exact circumstances of the chase, including the role of the passenger.
