Chase ends with accident of the allegedly stolen vehicle in which the truck breaks in half

UPDATE (2:20 p.m.): Surveillance video captures the moment a pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle ended after it crashed in east Bakersfield, splitting a truck in half.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said Metro Division officers were called to Glenwood Drive in Bakersfield on August 19, 2024, for a report of a vehicle theft.

Officers searched the area and located the suspect vehicle near Niles Street and Sterling Road. According to KCSO, the vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Niles Street and Fairfax Road and collided with another vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident was under investigation.

According to the CHP, the suspected stolen vehicle was a silver Toyota Sienna. The Sienna collided with a white GMC Sierra and a parked blue BMW.

CHP said they were investigating the accident, not the pursuit.

The driver of the allegedly stolen vehicle tried to flee from the officers but was arrested.

According to KCSO, the driver and two other people in the suspected stolen vehicle were identified as children, all girls.

The occupants of the allegedly stolen vehicle were all injured and taken to hospital.
