Chappell Roan gives a fiery medieval performance of “Good Luck, Babe” at the 2024 VMAs

Chappell Roan is your favorite knight in shining armor’s favorite knight in shining armor.

On Wednesday, September 11, the 26-year-old pop star performed her hit single “Good Luck, Babe!” at the 2024 MTV VMAs, which took place at New York’s UBS Arena.

Before she began her set, Roan – who uses drag performers as her opening act on her tour – was introduced by RuPaul’s Drag Race Alumna Sasha Colby. The “Naked in Manhattan” artist wore armor that appeared to be inspired by Joan of Arc while singing the hit.

At the beginning of her performance, Roan appeared behind bars of a medieval castle with a crossbow in hand. The “My Kink Is Karma” singer was then released and accompanied by several male dancers in armor who performed dances and fictional fight scenes.

In addition to Roan, artists at this year’s VMAs include Katy Perry, Anitta, Karol G, Shawn Mendes, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Lisa, Megan Thee Stallion and Benson Boone.

This year marks the “Casual” singer’s first appearance at the VMAs, which drew record-breaking attendance. Lollapalooza and Governor’s Ball earlier this summer.

At the 2024 VMAs, Roan was nominated for Best New Artist, MTV Push Performance of the Year for “Red Wine Supernova,” Song of the Summer for “Good Luck, Babe!”, and Best Trending Video for “Hot to Go!”.

Last month, Roan made a surprise appearance alongside Olivia Rodrigo during her offal World tour concert at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

Together, the two surprisingly sang a duet of Roan’s “Hot to Go!” Before they started the song, the 21-year-old “Vampire” artist gave a sweet introduction.

“I think she is one of the most unique, inspiring and powerful artists I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and I am so excited because she will be singing one of my favorite songs of all time,” Rodrigo said.

In Footage captured by fans showed the pop stars then launching into “Hot to Go!” as they jumped on stage and showed off the song’s signature dance moves.

The 2024 MTV VMAs will air live from the UBS Arena in New York on September 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
