Chappell Roan channels her inner witch in a see-through gothic dress and metal nails on the 2024 MTV VMAs red carpet
Chappell Roan exuded the power of a witch as she walked the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City on Wednesday.
The “Piny Pony Club” singer walked in a floor-length gown with a plunging V-neck on her own carpet, provided by an assistant dressed as a medieval knight. The sheer, layered garment featured vertical stripes in maroon and shades of gray over a neutral slip that hit mid-thigh.

Roan accessorized the gothic ensemble with a gold choker and a large cross necklace. Her fingerless fishnet gloves revealed long, metallic gray nails, about four inches long, with a gold ball at the end of each one. She completed the look with thigh-high boots.
After the singer sat on the carpet, her assistant handed her a sword to pose with.
Roan has spoken openly about how much drag queens influence her fashion style. On “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on June 21, she said, “My stylist Genesis Webb and I are inspired by drag, horror movies, burlesque and theater. … I love looking pretty and scary.” For that appearance, she wore two bird-inspired outfits, one in black and the other in white. Roan has been hitting the festival circuit all summer, performing at Lollapalooza in August in a Lucha Libre-inspired ensemble and other camp-inspired looks.
Roan is nominated for Best New Artist, Best Trending Video for “Hot To Go,” MTV Push Performance of the Year for “Red Wine Supernova,” and Song of the Summer for “Good Luck, Babe!”
The MTV VMAs honor the best music videos, artists and songs of the year. Megan Thee Stallion will make her hosting debut during the 2024 ceremony, which will take place on September 11 at UBS Stadium in Elmont, New York. Katy Perry will receive the honorary Video Vanguard Award, while artists up for grabs include Sabrina Carpenter, Lenny Kravitz, Eminem and Karol G.
