Chappell Roan cancels US festival appearance: “Things have become really overwhelming” | Chappell Roan

Singer Chappell Roan has pulled out of a performance at this weekend’s All Things Go festival, claiming her situation has become “overwhelming”.

The rising star, who currently has seven songs in the Billboard Top 100, released a statement on her Instagram Stories announcing that she will not be performing on the DC or New York City stages this weekend.

“I apologize to the people who were waiting to see me at All Things Go in NYC and DC this weekend, but I won’t be able to perform,” the 26-year-old wrote. “Things have become overwhelming over the last few weeks and I’m really feeling it. I’m feeling pressure to prioritize a lot of things right now and I need a few days to prioritize my health. I want to be present at my performances and give the best show possible. Thank you for your understanding. I’ll be back soon xox.”

Festival organizers responded with a post on

Roan made headlines last week after sharing her thoughts on the upcoming election in an interview with the Guardian.

“I have so many problems with our government on every level,” she said. “There are so many things I want to change. That’s why I don’t feel pressured to support anyone. There are problems on both sides. I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, to use your voice – vote small, vote for what’s going on in your city.”

The comment sparked backlash online and prompted Roan to respond in a series of TikTok videos in which she attempted to clarify her stance. While she acknowledged that she would vote for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, she added, “I will not settle for the options available to me, and you will not make me feel bad for it.” “”

Roan also said: “Of course screw the policies of the right, but also screw some of the policies of the left.” That’s why I can’t support it. That’s why I can’t put my entire name behind one on my entire project.”

The singer, who recently won Best New Artist at the MTV VMA Awards, has previously spoken about the struggles she’s had with her rapid rise to fame.

In June, she broke down on stage in North Carolina, telling fans: “I just want to be honest with the audience. I’m just feeling a bit uncomfortable today because I think my career is just moving really fast and it’s really hard to keep up. I have to be honest and say that it’s just difficult for me today.”

She has also released a series of statements about how she was treated by overzealous fans who crossed the line with “creepy” behavior. “I don’t care that this crazy behavior comes with the job, the career field that I chose,” she said. “That doesn’t make it okay, that doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean I want it, that doesn’t mean I like it.”

In her Guardian interview, Roan also discussed her diagnosis of “severe depression,” for which she is currently undergoing therapy. “I think it’s because my whole life has changed,” she said. “Everything I really enjoy doing now comes with baggage.”

Roan, whose hit singles include “Good Luck,” “Babe” and “Hot to Go!”, has tour dates planned in Tennessee and at the Austin City Limits Festival in Texas in the coming weeks. She is also scheduled to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on November 2nd.
