CBI questions former forest minister in Corbett tree felling case

Dehradun: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) interviewed former Minister of Forestry Harak Singh Rawat for two hours in his Dehradun Office as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged illegal Tree felling in the Pakhro area of Corbett Tiger reserve.
According to a CBI official, Rawat was summoned on August 14. “During questioning, he produced some documents relevant to the case and claimed that he had done nothing wrong and had followed the law,” said the official, who wished to remain anonymous.
He added: “It is unlikely that Rawat will be questioned again in the near future. It will take several more months before the investigation is completed and a chargesheet can be filed.”
The investigative agency took over the case in October last year after receiving investigative documents from the State Security Agency, which originally conducted the investigation.
Former forest officer Kishan Chand from Haridwar and former forest ranger Brij Bihari Sharma from Dehradun were arrested in connection with the case. Both are currently out on bail.
