“Catfish” presenter Nev Schulman hit by truck – grateful to be alive

Aug. 12 (UPI) – A truck hit Nev Schulman while he was riding his bicycle. catfish The presenter shared it on social media over the weekend.

Schulman was on his way to his son’s school on August 5 when the incident occurred, breaking his neck.

“C5 and C6 to be exact,” he wrote on Instagram. “Stable fractures. I’m not paralyzed. My hands were a question mark for a minute, but the human body is incredible and so are people.”

He thanked the medical staff who cared for him and added: “It’s hard for me to feel sorry for myself when I hear from the doctors how many people with similar injuries will never walk again.”

He shared a photo carousel on Instagram that begins with a trigger warning.

“The following slides contain images of medical trauma and serious injuries. If this concerns you, I completely understand. Please do not swipe right!”

The images are excerpts from Schulman’s hospital stay – an X-ray of his neck, a hug with his children.

Schulman, who started hosting catfish in 2012 following the 2010 film of the same name, said he was grateful that the crash happened when he did.

“I was alone at impact,” he wrote. “Me and the truck. And then, I guess, the sidewalk. I was alone and unconscious. And then conscious again.”

He said he was glad he had a nice day of fishing with his family the day before the shipwreck. His social media post includes a photo of the trip.

He and his wife Laura Perlongo have a seven-year-old daughter, a five-year-old son and a two-year-old son.

“I’m glad to be alive, hugging my family and expected to make a full recovery,” he said. “And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude. For the big and small things before the accident and for everything that’s going forward now.”
