Carson City Sheriff’s Office warns public of ongoing phone scam | Local News

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of an ongoing phone scam and is advising people to be vigilant.

In the scam, the caller pretends to be a police officer and uses the names of real police officers.

The caller then demands payment in exchange for not arresting the person called or preventing the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Callers often request payment in the form of gift cards or ask for credit/debit card information.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to remind people:

  • Carson City Sheriff’s Office will not Contact people by phone and demand payment in lieu of arrest.
  • Carson City Sheriff’s Office will not Demand payment over the phone for arrest warrants or missed jury duty.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to remain vigilant for scam phone calls. Scammers are evolving their tactics and different scenarios are frequently reported. If a suspicious call comes in, people should hang up and not give out any personal information.
