A few days ago, Carrie revealed what kind of judge she will be on American Idol – 20 years after she first appeared as a star of the series.

The star rose to national fame in 2005 through the reality competition series and emerged as the winner of the fourth season.

Two decades later, she returns to the show in 2025 for the 23rd season and joins a panel of judges that includes Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

She takes the place of Katy Perry, who was on American Idol for seven years before announcing her departure earlier this year.

Now, Carrie has shared her theories about how she will fare as a judge during a conversation with SiriusXM at Resorts World in Las Vegas.

She stressed that she has worked in several genres and therefore “I like to think that I am versatile. When I listen to the people who come to audition, I can hopefully tune into the type of music I have in mind from every perspective.”

The “Before He Cheats” singer added: “I think I can be honest and constructive but still kind, and I think that’s the whole point.”

Carrie noted, “People come in and you know, they’re dreams, and from that moment on you’re part of someone’s story.”

She continued: “I think it’s important to be honest, but I also think it’s very important to be kind. So I hope I can combine all of that and be a good judge.”

Carrie is stepping in for Katy Perry, who was first announced as a judge on American Idol in 2017 and reportedly earns an incredible $25 million per season.

Last year, Katy was frequently attacked online and accused of “bullying” because she made snarky comments towards the contestants during the show.

DailyMail.com exclusively reported at the time that she was on the verge of quitting the ABC reality show because she felt she had been “thrown under the bus” by producers who had made her the “evil judge” of the series.

Months after the controversy exploded online, Katy announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this February that she would be leaving the show after season 22.

When it was announced that Carrie would be Katy’s successor, Lionel gushed that she would be a “great judge,” citing her experience as a contestant on the show.

“Now we don’t have to say, ‘We know how you feel.’ As artists, we know how you feel, but we’ve never been in that oval that says ‘American Idol.’ She’s been through it all,” the pop singer told E! News.

Carrie became a contestant on American Idol after singing the Bonnie Raitt song “I Can’t Make You Love Me” at her stirring audition in August 2004.

The following year, audiences across the United States fell in love with Carrie as she rose through the ranks on American Idol and ultimately won the season.

The judges at the time were Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, while Ryan Seacrest hosted the event, a role he still holds today.

She went on to become a hugely successful country star, winning a record-breaking 25 CMT Music Awards and is often cited, along with Kelly Clarkson, as one of the few American Idol winners to go on to have an A-list career.
