Cardinals rookies Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey Benson develop close relationship

Trey Benson didn’t meet Marvin Harrison Jr. until the two were draft picks of the Cardinals and arrived in Tempe the day they underwent medicals and joined the team for the first time. But since then? Benson and Harrison have been inseparable, after Benson found a soul mate.

“When I first came here with him, he was all about work,” Benson said. “I was all about work, too. So I thought, ‘OK, I’m going to spend a little more time with him.'”

Benson said he and Harrison spent nearly all of the players’ five off weeks before training camp together, training either in Tempe or Los Angeles (both were part of Kyler Murray’s team-building training house in LA).

Benson joked that practice would start at 7 a.m., although he was 15 minutes late a few times and got into trouble with Harrison for it.

Harrison and Benson – who had a good second preseason game in Indianapolis – are expected to play important roles in the offense. Harrison will be the No. 1 wide receiver, while Benson will be the best backup at running back to starter James Conner.

“(Marv) took me to a level I never thought I would reach,” Benson said.

“He’s different. He’s a different guy,” Benson added. “He takes care of his business and, you know, that’s how I want to be. You have to be around people who think that way because you adapt to it.”
