Card takes the win – Stanford Cardinal

MILWAUKEE – Elia Rubin and Sami Francis combined for 33 kills to lead No. 5 Stanford to a 26-28, 25-23, 16-25, 25-13, 15-13 victory over No. 18 Minnesota on Sunday in the State Farm Women’s College Volleyball Showcase at Fiserv Forum.

Stanford (2-0) served hard and defended fiercely, totaling 67 digs and 12 aces. Minnesota (0-1) outscored the Cardinal by .302 to .222 and achieved 14.0 blocks.

Rubin finished with a double-double, scoring 19 kills, 13 digs, three blocks and two aces – the highest total of the game. Francis posted a .393 batting average with 14 kills and three blocks.

Setter Kami Miner made her season debut and recorded a game-high 47 assists, three kills and 17 digs. Libero Elena Oglivie anchored the defense with 16 digs and six assists.

Jordyn Harvey was second on the team with 19.5 points. The sophomore posted career-highs of 12 kills and seven aces – just one shy of the school single-game record in the rally scoring era.

Junior middle blocker Lizzy Andrew had eight kills with a .429 hitting average and one block. Redshirt freshman Ipar Kurt added five kills and six digs.

Freshman defensive specialist Malyssa Cawa collected five digs and an assist in four sets played, while senior Taylor Beaven contributed four digs. Freshman Taylor Yu came off the bench to serve in the final two sets, scoring two aces. Junior defensive specialist Anna Pringle also had an ace in the win.

Minnesota was led by outside hitters Julia Hanson and Mckenna Wucherer, who each had 14 kills for the Gophers. The game featured 40 ties and 18 lead changes. The Cardinal have won three straight games against Minnesota.

Stanford returns to action against No. 3 Wisconsin on Monday at 2 p.m. PT on FOX.
