Canelo Álvarez is spending his Saturday doing what he usually does around Mexican Independence Day: headlining a major pay-per-view show. His opponent this time: undefeated challenger Edgar Berlanga.
It’s been three years since Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) unified the super middleweight titles, and he has defended the bracket four times since then with unanimous decision victories over Gennadiy Golovkin, John Ryder, Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguía. He’s considered the clear favorite to face Berlanga, so the biggest question is what he’ll do next.
However, Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) is no small opponent and a single hard punch from the 27-year-old would be enough to shock the boxing world.
