Canadians Mackenzie and Vincent win Olympic bronze in the women’s 500-meter canoe doubles final

Canadians Katie Vincent and Sloan MacKenzie won Olympic bronze in the final of the 500-meter canoe doubles.

Vincent of Mississauga, Ontario, and MacKenzie of Windsor Junction, New York, finished in one minute, 54.36 seconds, behind Xu Shixiao and Sun Mengya of China, who took gold with their Olympic best time of 1:52.81.

The Canadian duo got off to a strong start but were unable to catch China, losing to Ukraine, who made a late push to take silver in a photo finish.

Canadians Sloan MacKenzie and Katie Vincent paddle to Olympic bronze in the 500 m C2

Sloan MacKenzie of Windsor Junction, NS, and Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ontario, took bronze in the Olympic 500-meter final of the women’s canoe sprint C2 at Paris 2024.

This is Vincent’s second Olympic medal after she took home bronze in the same race as Laurence Vincent-Lapointe at the Tokyo Games.

Friday was a busy day for Canadian paddlers: canoeist Connor Fitzpatrick finished eighth in the men’s 1,000-meter semifinals, kayakers Courtney Stott and Natalie Davison finished eighth in the women’s 500-meter semifinals, and Pierre-Luc Poulin and Simon McTavish finished sixth in the men’s 500-meter sprint kayak semifinals.

These three boats will compete in placement races on Friday afternoon.
