Caleb Williams: I will be better

Caleb Williams got the result he was hoping for on Sunday, but the day didn’t quite go as expected for the Bears rookie quarterback.

The Bears fell behind 17-0 to the Titans in the first half as Williams and the offense struggled to move the ball down the field consistently, but special teams and defense caught up in the final 30 minutes. A blocked punt and an interception led to touchdowns and the Bears pulled out a 24-17 victory in the first-round pick’s NFL debut.

Williams completed just 14 of 29 passes for 93 yards that day and said that during the postgame celebration, he also thought about what he needs to do in the future.

“I sat down, enjoyed the moment and watched all the boys celebrating and understanding that I have to be better. will be better,” Williams said, via Josh Schrock of NBCSportsChicago.com. “Whether it’s a win or a loss, you expect to play a certain way, you expect yourself to perform a certain way, make passes, whether it’s just a routine pass or a crazy type of play, whatever the case may be. That didn’t happen today, so it’s motivation enough for me. We’re going to someone else’s house this week, so it’s motivation enough for me to go out and get better this week and make sure I play differently next week.”

It wasn’t a fairytale first chapter, but the Bears are 1-0 and Williams can only travel to Houston next Sunday night.
