Caitlin Clark doesn’t make excuses.
The Indiana Fever rookie was hit in the eye by Connecticut Sun defenseman DiJonai Carrington just 90 seconds into the game. Clark lost 93-69 and struggled to shoot on the night, but she did not attribute her problems to the incident.

“It obviously got to me pretty badly,” Clark told reporters. “I don’t think it affected me. I felt like I had good shots, they just didn’t go in.”
Clark made 4 of 17 shots and 2 of 13 three-pointers. She finished the day with 11 points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals.
While she still had an impact on the game, her shooting difficulties did not help the Fever’s offensive performance and now the team is on the brink of elimination.
This is the first time Indiana has reached the postseason since 2016, and Clark is hoping for a better performance in Game 2.
That matchup is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET. If Indiana can hold off the Sun, the all-important third game will take place Friday in Indianapolis.
