Caitlin Clark receives invitations from Phillies and Brewers to commentate on games after viral TikTok

Caitlin Clark has no plans to quit her job to become a baseball commentator, but she at least had some fun on a trip into an imaginary commentary booth.

The Indiana Fever rookie made headlines on Friday when teammate Lexie Hull posted a TikTok of her trying her hand at live commentating during a game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies. A day later, she told reporters that the experience gave her a newfound respect for baseball commentators and a desire to actually commentate on a game.

About Matthew Byrne of ClutchPoints:

“Well, I told Lex that sometimes I just do a few games and she’ll say, ‘Okay, we’ll do it right now.’ I didn’t know until a little while ago that she was also recording, but I don’t know, it’s just fun. I follow the Phillies a little bit, so I know a few of their players and stuff.

“It was pretty funny, I messed up a few times but it’s a tough job! Also I was out of breath and exhausted so kudos to all the commentators out there. I did it for two minutes and needed a break… I don’t know if I’ll work as a commentator in the future but who knows, maybe someone will let me do it for fun someday.”

So if you’re an athlete known for your unique ability to attract unprecedented audiences to your sport, MLB teams will be very interested if you signal that you’re willing to do a game broadcast. Especially if you jokingly comment, “@Phillies hire me?”

Both the Phillies and Brewers offered Clark the opportunity to attend a game with them the next day. The Phillies sent a message from live commentator Tom McCarthy, who praised her comments and invited her to come to the booth “anytime she wants.” He also said she should bring her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, a Phillies fan.

Clark also told reporters Saturday that she follows the Phillies through McCaffery and still likes the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees, the latter fans of which already brought her into the Yankees radio booth last month.

The teams will have to wait a while before Clark can commentate on a baseball game again. The MLB regular season ends next weekend, and during that time Clark will focus on getting the Fever through the first round of the WNBA playoffs. The Fever and Connecticut Sun will play their first game on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Therefore, it’s more likely that Clark will be in the commentary booth next season, either during spring training or at the start of the regular season. WNBA training camps typically begin in late April, a few weeks after the start of the MLB regular season.
