Caitlin Clark made WNBA history by recording the second triple-double of her WNBA career in the Indiana Fever’s 93-86 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday night – a feat never accomplished by a rookie.
With her triple-double, the Fever rookie is also ranked fourth among the most successful players of all time in the WNBA rankings. Did Clark, who grabbed her 10th rebound with 10.2 seconds left in the game and thus secured an impressive statistic, know how important the rebound she grabbed was?
In a courtside interview after the game, Clark admitted she knew she was just one rebound away from a historic triple-double.
“Of course I knew that,” Clark said, smiling. “But honestly, we were just trying to get stops. I think our defense was much better at the end of the game. But we have to find a way to stay consistent for four quarters.”
“We’re proud of our group. We found a way to do it. But someone had to get the rebound. AB (Aliyah Boston) was joking. We always joke about stealing each other’s rebounds, so it was fun.”
The story on the tape backs up Clark’s answer, as cameras caught her dribbling down the court with a big smile after tearing down the 10th board.
The Fever, who secured a playoff spot on Tuesday without even playing on the court, are clearly having fun. And Clark, who is becoming more and more comfortable in the professional game, looks set to take home the Rookie of the Year award.
