BYU Basketball brings former Georgia Tech guard to the team

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball head coach Kevin Young expanded his staff on Saturday.

Former Georgia Tech and USC guard Kyle Sturdivant will serve as a graduate assistant for BYU’s basketball team.

Kyle Sturdivant joins BYU as a research associate

Sturdivant wrote in an edit on Instagram: “With all of that said, I am very excited to announce that I will be joining the BYU team next season alongside Coach Kevin Young and the Cougs!”

The Norcross, Georgia native played at Georgia Tech from 2020-2024. He spent his freshman season at USC. Sturdivant was part of the Georgia Tech team that won the 2021 ACC Tournament.

He finished his career with 49 career appearances for the Yellow Jackets and posted career averages of 7.3 points, 2.4 assists and 2.0 rebounds. With his 301 assists in his four years at Georgia Tech, Sturdivant ranks 18th in Yellow Jackets history in assists.

BYU’s graduate assistants for the 2024-25 season

Sturdivant joins Jordan “Juice” Woodson, Andy Wessman, Dhruv Mehrotra and former Northern Arizona forward Nik Mains as graduate assistants on Kevin Young’s staff. One more graduate assistant is expected to join.

Young told KSL Sports earlier this week that he also wants to hire a nutritionist to complete his support staff for his first year as head coach.

BYU basketball players are off until school starts later this month. Training camp for the 2024-25 season begins in late September.
