BVB commentary: Dortmund suddenly plays Klopp football | Sport

For two match days, BVB fans have been wondering what the new Sahin style will be. Now you know!

4:2 in the top game against the previous leader Heidenheim. Turbo deep runs, creative football, guerrilla pressing, bang goals – this Dortmund game had more than just trace elements of Klopp football to offer!

Did the cult coach leave his match plan in Sahin’s office after the legendary game last Saturday? One thing is certain: while the first two games of the season against Frankfurt (2-0) and Bremen (0-0) were as nervous as the new tethered caps, the attacking performance against high-flyer Heidenheim was a bit like a champagne cork popping – of course, with summer investments of around 100 million euros, the expensive kind…

The pressure is off, Dortmund is finally celebrating Dortmund football again (on it, on it, on it), just as the Borussia fans would like. But they are right, of course it is still far too early for the huge praise of BVB! The last two years in particular have shown time and again that the black and yellow have only really remained stable in one discipline: as masters of fickleness!

This is exactly what coach Nuri Şahin (36) and his newly formed team (total market value: 461 million euros) will be aiming for in the coming weeks and months: to finally bring consistency to the team!

The Heidenheim match also showed how exhausting this will be: if one of the DFB trio (Süle, Anton, Schlotterbeck) is out, the defense (see second half) is no longer stable under pressure. The test of survival and championship will then come in the real top games against Leverkusen, Bayern or Leipzig.

If BVB continues to play Klopp-style football, Sahin will certainly not regret having had a championship bonus (allegedly around 500,000 euros) written into his contract…

Until then, BVB can at least be happy about their first title: Dortmund are now Friday night champions!

The Pott club has been unbeaten in Friday night home games for over 20 years – including Heidenheim, this has been a total of 37 matches (9 draws). Only Werder Bremen has managed this before (1984-’91). Incidentally, Borussia’s last Friday defeat was – believe it or not – at the hands of Schalke 04 (0:1/goal scorer: Ebbe Sand)!

What a tragedy that the blue and white favorite rival in the 2nd league is currently already sniffing relegation again…
