BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – WBRC is on your side with an important message for business owners in the Magic City.

Birmingham is currently changing its tax software to streamline the tax process for businesses here in the city.

It is estimated that the change will affect nearly 35,000 different business owners here in the city of Birmingham.

City officials say their partnership with HdL Companies will improve customer service and streamline the tax process for Birmingham businesses, and will now allow business owners to pay with electronic checks as well.

The window to register for the new system only opened this week. If you already own a business, you must register your business by September 6th.Birmingham Tax Authority says if you don’t do this it will cost you valuable time in the future.

“If you do not register by September 6, you will not be able to make payments and transfers online, nor will you be able to renew your business license online,” says Yolanda Lawson, manager of tax collection in Birmingham.

Here, too, you have until September 6 to register your business. You must still register each new business with the city in person.
