Bryson DeChambeau reveals his true colors with LIV Golf statement | Golf | Sport

Bryson DeChambeau says LIV Golf is “all about” helping the community and praises the impact they’re making. The US Open champion was speaking ahead of defending his individual triumph at Greenbrier.

DeChambeau shot a LIV golf record 12-under-par 58 at White Sulphur Springs last year, giving him a six-shot lead and making him only the seventh male professional in history to do so. But he was anything but focused on his own accomplishments at Wednesday’s pre-tournament press conference.

When asked to discuss the increased respect LIV has received since its inception two years ago, DeChambeau preferred to focus on things off the golf course – showing his passion for what they can accomplish in the places they visit.

He said: “I’m staying with a friend this week and it’s great to see the change in people in the community here. Not just respect but understanding. I think there’s a difference in understanding of what we’re trying to achieve.

“This isn’t a one-off thing or anything like that. It’s here to stay and we’re here to provide great entertainment, to inspire and hopefully educate people on a new format that will keep their interest on every single shot we take.

“I think that’s the cool thing and also the impact that we can have in the community, seeing how much we’ve done for Greenbrier. And being able to help that community on a whole other level is what LIV is all about.”

LIV reached its 100th round this week and DeChambeau expects them to “explode” in the coming months. As for his own game, he cites last year’s performance at the Greenbrier as a turning point in his career.

He had previously endured a tough few years, struggling to regain form following surgery on his wrist in April 2022, before going under the knife again later in December of the same year to finally resolve a dizziness problem that had plagued him since the 2020 Masters.

DeChambeau ended his nearly four-year wait for a major triumph in June, adding another to his 2020 US Open triumph. His overall form has improved so much that he believes he can beat his own record of 58 strokes.
