Bryce Hall is carted off the field after a serious injury in the first game against the Buccaneers

During the offseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers added two former New York Jets players to their secondary, but will only continue with one after Week 1.

Jordan Whitehead was the big addition for the Bucs, as it was a reunion that helped the two teams win a Super Bowl the last time they met. He wasn’t there, though, as Whitehead came to Tampa Bay with former Jets teammate Bryce Hall, who was added to the thin cornerback roster after the Carlton Davis III trade.

However, Hall’s time with the Bucs could be short-lived.

In the third quarter, Hall was carried off the field after suffering a nasty leg injury that FOX refused to even show on replay. The aircast was on his leg almost immediately as trainers came out to tend to him, and his day — and his season — were over.

It’s a brutal blow on multiple levels, not least because of what it means for Hall. He was a surprise free agent signing with the Bucs and was in a position to shine with the secondary so open.

The loss of Hall also puts Tampa Bay’s secondary in a real bind, as the already thin depth has increased even further. Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum entered the season as the two best players at the position, but McCollum also had to leave early with a concussion. Josh Hayes was injured and the Bucs were unable to use Tyrek Funderburk or Kaevon Merriweather – who was injured in the preseason.

The depth of the cornerback position was a problem for the Bucs last season, and that problem continued in Week 1. There are some There are replacements that can come from within, and the team could bring back Keenan Isaac after he was released by the Panthers, but it looks like the first losing streak of the season could force the team to look outside for options at the cornerback position.

Overall, the season has started great, but we have to keep an eye on the situation in the secondary.
