Browns RB Nick Chubb (knee) begins the 2024 season on the PUP list, but will miss at least the first four games

At the start of the preseason, coach Kevin Stefanski noted that he would not be too specific about Chubb’s timetable. The running back himself said that he did not have an exact return date in mind and would simply take it “one day at a time.”

With the running back out for at least the first four games, the Browns and Chubb have made sure they have no pressure to rush his rehab. Given the severity of the injury, his return will likely involve an additional warm-up period, so he will likely miss more than four games.

In the meantime, the Browns will rely on Jerome Ford, Pierre Strong and D’Onta Foreman (if they are healthy) in the backfield.

While Chubb remains on the PUP list, the Browns get an important part of their offensive line back.

Right tackle Jack Conklin has passed his medical clearance test and will be removed from the PUP list, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported, citing a source familiar with the situation.

Conklin suffered a torn ACL and medial ligament in Week 1 last season, which sidelined him for the season. Having the former All-Pro tackle back early in the season is a huge boon for the Browns, especially in the running game, where he excels as a street planner.

Conklin isn’t the only one returning from the PUP list. Stefanski announced Monday that defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, cornerback Greg Newsome II and safety D’Anthony Bell will all return to practice. Left tackle Jedrick Wills is also returning from the PUP list but will not practice yet.

They’ll miss Chubb, but the Browns will get healthier elsewhere as the season progresses.
