Broken Bat teams up with Johnsonville for next No-Phone Friday

This summer, our neighbors across the street at Broken Bat Brewing have been developing a series they’ve dubbed “No-Phone Friday.” The next episode is coming in a few days, and just in time, they’ve forged a red-hot partnership.

This No Phone Friday (August 30), Broken Bat will join forces with Johnsonville as the brewery continues its goal of getting you to come through the doors and put down your device for a real human connection.

“It’s a simple exchange, but a meaningful gesture,” said Tim Pauly, founder of Broken Bat, in a press release. “Whether it’s 20 minutes or the entire stay, we want to reward guest engagement with easy, fun ways to connect with one another. Johnsonville’s support of this sends a strong message that it’s OK to take a break. Enjoy each other’s company over bratwursts and a beer!”

With their Big Taste Grill Johnsonville is taking a break from traveling and bringing back the Sizzling Sausage Grill Plus, a more space-saving cooking mechanism, as well as additional prizes and giveaways.

That sounds like a “random draw,” whereas Broken Bat has planned a “you’ll definitely get something” menu – if you throw away your device. Actually, it’s quite simple: give your phone to a trusted member of brewery staff (who will then place it in a locked box) and you’ll receive a numbered card for a free game of darts and a second free beer.

“We’re big fans of people hanging out together in real life,” said Jamie Schmelzer, senior director of marketing at Johnsonville, in the press release. “We applaud everyone involved in these events for making such a conscious effort to make time for fun and togetherness. We hope our delicious hot dogs, prizes and giveaways make something great even better.”

Even better, the partners have added a give-back element to the event by encouraging donations to Mental Health America of Wisconsin. You can do so right ahead of the No-Phone Friday event, which runs from noon to 10 p.m., with Johnsonville brats served from 4 to 7 p.m.
