Bridge work on I-80 leads to traffic closures in Parsippany

PARSIPPANY, NJ — According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), motorists can expect lane closures on eastbound Interstate 80 in Parsippany-Troy Hills this evening.

Lane and ramp closures are planned on eastbound I-80 this evening and will continue through tomorrow morning. These closures are necessary for bridge deck repairs and to improve construction safety on the eastbound I-80 bridge over Old Bloomfield Avenue/Edwards Road, according to the Transportation Department.

Starting at 10:00 p.m. tonight and continuing through 6:00 a.m. Saturday, the ramp from Route 46 eastbound to I-80 eastbound and the I-80 eastbound ramp from Express Exit 47A to I-280 eastbound will be closed and detoured.

The following diversions will be set up:

Detour from Route 46 eastbound to I-80 eastbound:

  • Motorists traveling east on Route 46 seeking to access the I-80 east/Paterson/New York ramp are directed to continue east on Route 46.
  • Take the ramp to New Road/I-280.
  • Turn left into New Road.
  • Turn right onto Old Bloomfield Road.
  • Turn left onto Hook Mountain Road.
  • Turn right onto New Maple Avenue.
  • Take the ramp to I-80 east.

I-80 Eastbound, Express Exit 47A, ramp to I-280 Eastbound:

  • Motorists on I-80 Express eastbound who wish to take Exit 47A to I-280 eastbound/The Oranges/Newark are advised to take Exit 45 to Lake Hiawatha/Whippany, which is located before Exit 47A.
  • Continue east on I-80.
  • Take exit 47A to I-280/The Oranges/Newark.

In addition, beginning at 10:00 p.m. tonight and continuing until 6:00 a.m. Saturday, the left and center lanes on I-80 eastbound on the Old Bloomfield Avenue/Edwards Road bridge will be closed from mile marker 46.1 to mile marker 46.5.

Drivers are asked to slow down, exercise caution and expect delays.

The work is part of a $15 million federal contract to perform preventive maintenance and extend the life of bridge structures at various locations in eight North Jersey counties.

Timing of work is subject to change due to weather conditions or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to visit the NJDOT traffic information website, 511nj.org, for up-to-date construction information and real-time travel information.
