Bridge inspection on US-522 near Hancock to close lanes during the day

August 23, 2024 – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration will conduct bridge inspections at two bridges on US 522 near Hancock from Monday, August 26, through Thursday, August 29, weather permitting. The work includes the US 522 bridge over the Potomac River and the US 522 bridge over Limestone Road and MD 144 (W. Main Street).

Crews will work on both bridges, the US 522 bridge over the Potomac River, Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During work hours, drivers should expect flagging of the US 522 bridge over the Potomac River. Crews will work on the US 522 bridge over Limestone Road and MD 144 (Main Street) from underneath the bridge and will conduct flagging of southbound Limestone Road. A contingency plan in case of rain is to conduct the inspection from 9:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

State Highway Administration contractor Wallace, Montgomery & Associates, LLP of Hunt Valley, MD, will use electronic billboards, buoys and cones to safely guide motorists through the construction zone. Please allow additional travel time for your commute during this time.

The State Highway Administration thanks motorists for their patience while we perform this necessary inspection and maintenance work. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roads.
