A bride-to-be is searching for opinions online after announcing that she and her fiancé have decided to have their wedding on a vineyard in Italy – something her sister has always dreamed of doing on her big day.

The bride posted on Reddit’s popular AITA forum, revealing that she and her fiancé Nick had considered three locations for their wedding: New York City, London, and Tuscany, where her groom-to-be is from.

She said they ultimately chose Tuscany because they found it the “most beautiful” and because his family has a “huge vineyard” where they can host guests. She also noted that they would save enough money on the venue and accommodations to pay for guests traveling from the United States.

However, she added that her sister was “furious” because their ideal wedding venue had “always been an Italian vineyard.” She said her sister had envisioned their wedding for a long time, had “hundreds of pictures saved in her camera roll” and even followed “a number of wedding bakery pages (Instagram).”

“She called me selfish for doing this to her because I’ve never cared much about weddings, but now I’m stealing the venue of her dreams,” she explained.

She went on to say that her parents had agreed to have the wedding somewhere else because they were afraid of having to pay for two weddings in a different location with her and her sister. However, they relented when she told them that she and her fiancé would cover all the costs, but her sister would “not come with us.”

“After speaking to my mum today, she suggested we just have the wedding in England to ‘keep the peace’ as this means so much to my sister, whereas I have never been much into weddings,” the bride wrote.

“I’m not sure what to do now,” she continued. “Nick strongly prefers Italy, but he’s not totally against London. His parents really want to host the wedding.”

In a comment under the post, she added that her sister is in a “long-term relationship” and will be “getting engaged this spring.” Meanwhile, she and her fiancé are aiming for an October wedding and the “weddings won’t be too close together.”

Several people on Reddit supported the bride-to-be in the comments, telling her that she wasn’t difficult. One wrote, “Your sister has gone too far, and so have your parents. They expect you to give up a free place that meant something to your fiancé because of a tantrum? Nope.”

Another person commented: “Her sister isn’t even engaged or actively planning a wedding. She can’t secure Italian vineyards just because she made a Pinterest board.”

Another person noted that the two weddings could be very different, even though both take place in a vineyard.

“You are not the first or last person to get married in a vineyard,” they wrote. “Every vineyard is different, your sister may choose a completely different vineyard for hers, with different colors and themes. Do what you like best.”
