Instant ramen may be a college student’s favorite dish, but one couple decided to serve the dish at their wedding.

In a Reddit post shared on the popular “Wedding Shaming” subreddit, a wedding guest revealed that he was recently invited to the wedding of his partner’s childhood best friend. The invitation to the event specified that attire should be “formal wear.”

Another part of the invitation asked guests if they wanted chicken or fish for their main course. However, when they arrived, they were only offered an instant ramen bar, the Reddit user said. “On the day of the event, we found a self-serve instant ramen bar. Just instant ramen, diced ham, a few small veggies here and there, and kid-sized bags of chips. And to top it off, we could also bring our own drinks,” the Reddit post said.

The couple decided not to reconsider the change of plans due to the potential for a cash crunch. However, that didn’t seem to be the case, as the Reddit user noted that both the bride and groom are “in the midst of their careers (the bride-to-be is a professional chef – isn’t that ironic), own their own home, and are jetting off to Cuba for their honeymoon.”

“My partner and I skipped dinner thinking we would get something to eat. We spent the reception hungry and had to buy fast food right after to make ends meet. I’ve been to a lot of weddings. I’m not a snob by any means. But this wedding was the most tasteless I’ve ever been to,” the post concluded.

After posting, many people used the comments section to offer a possible explanation for the change in diet plan.

“Is there a chance that something went wrong with the catering and they had to rush to find something for their guests?” asked one commenter.

“You’d think so! But no, it turns out they hosted a meal for a separate group of people but ripped off the other guests. The guests were neither informed nor apologized for it,” the Reddit poster responded.

“Were you allowed to go to the actual wedding venue or were you also directed to a remote video location?” joked another person in the comments.

One commenter even mentioned what he would have done to get revenge for being served ramen.

“It’s definitely tasteless, but I would have eaten it anyway. In fact, I would have eaten A LOT of it. Or stuffed my plate with all the ham and veggies. Just because they’re tasteless idiots doesn’t mean you have to go hungry,” they wrote.

Other commenters shared their own experiences with bad food at a wedding.

“I once went to one in a tiny town. My boyfriend was part of the wedding party, so we walked around all day and had nothing to eat, but we thought we would eat at the reception. As it turned out, the ‘dinner’ consisted of very meager salad plates and that was it. I was starving – and then the bar opened. I should mention that there was nowhere to eat in town in the evening, otherwise I would have gone there and bought a sandwich.”
