TikTok users were horrified by a long list of wedding rules that a bride and groom controversially imposed on their guests.
In the viral video, which has over 3.5 million views and 228,000 likes, event planner Ivy Miller (@ivy.eventideas) lists five things a couple she worked with banned from doing on their special day.
Many commentators called the list of rules “draconian” and said they would “rather stay at home” than attend a wedding where so many activities are banned.
Miller revealed that the couple did not allow their wedding DJ to take song requests from guests. “Just go to the club if you want your songs played,” the couple reportedly suggested.
The event planner also said that the bride and groom did not want guests asking their photographer to take photos of them. “I did not pay tens of thousands of dollars for random portraits,” the post said.
Instead, guests were invited to join a shared photo album on a group app, where they could crowdsource photos of the day.
In addition, the couple did not allow any guests to bring a companion. “I am not stressing out and paying for strangers I have never met,” the post said.
Finally, Miller’s post revealed that the couple banned alcohol at their wedding because they wanted their guests to “truly remember” their celebration.
“No chaperones? No alcohol? Is this a wedding?” asked one TikTok user in response to the list of rules.
“Sounds more like a business conference than a wedding,” said another person about the unusual demands.
“I went to a no-alcohol wedding,” added another commenter. “(It was) the most boring wedding I’ve ever been to. Almost everyone arrived at 8 and most of the evening guests didn’t show up.”
“These are all reasons why people come to a wedding,” claimed a fourth person. “I would recommend a really small wedding because then your guests won’t secretly hate you.”
Other users, however, defended the bride and groom’s wishes. “It’s their wedding, their rules,” wrote one. “You don’t have to go.”
Someone else added: “I totally agree with these rules. I had the same rules at my wedding reception and everyone was happy.”
