Bride and groom are angry after wedding guest hosts baby shower on same day

A couple who are getting married soon are furious because two of their friends decided to throw a baby shower on the same day as the wedding – and they invited everyone in the group chat.

In an anonymous post on Reddit, the bride-to-be writes that she and her fiancé sent out invitations to their wedding months ago, but had not received a response from a certain couple on the guest list.

Noting that the couple, who initially skipped their invitation, were expecting a child, the bride-to-be writes, “The birth was scheduled a full two months after our wedding date, but I told our pregnant friend that there was absolutely no pressure to have her.”

“She has actually admitted that she may be at risk for a high-risk pregnancy and will therefore probably not attend. However, she will insist that her partner attends the party as he is the groom’s friend and deserves a night of fun with the band,” the poster continues.

When the acceptances came in, the poster says she had her fiancé contact the couple, but he told her that they weren’t sure yet if they would make it.

“The day we were supposed to submit the paperwork for our marriage license, my fiancé received a message in the friend group chat: ‘Hey guys, we would like to invite your ladies to xx baby shower!!!! on -wedding anniversary-.’ My jaw dropped at the audacity,” the woman wrote in her post.

Her fiancé retorted in the group chat, writing: “Sorry buddy, but I’m pretty busy with my wedding that day.”

“In my mind I was thinking ‘that’s one way to say no,’ lol,” the poster adds. “But the guy still insisted afterward that he would ‘maybe’ come.”

The poster continues: “I understand that having a baby is a huge milestone and you should want to celebrate that, it should be a priority. Of course your pregnant partner’s wedding is more important than your friend’s wedding, but maybe why not invite her to an event on the same day?”

While writing that she’s “over it now,” the bride-to-be adds, “It was definitely a WTF moment for me.”

Many commenters attributed the pregnant couple’s baby shower date to them being “clueless” and overwhelmed by the pregnancy. One wrote: “To give them the benefit of the doubt, they were probably engrossed in their pregnancy and preparing for the birth of the child, especially if it was high risk.”

Others are not so sure whether it was intentional.

“This is beyond rude, this is just selfish!” writes one commenter. “They could have planned the baby shower the weekend before or after.”
